Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) has been a trusted name in power engineering for over sixty years. Our Power Business Unit (PBU) supports clients across thermal, nuclear, hydro, and renewable energy, as well as transmission and distribution. We offer end-to-end services including feasibility studies, design, engineering, procurement support, project management, and operational assistance for large and complex energy programmes.
From powering cities to supporting remote regions, our engineers have helped shape more than 300 gigawatts of power generation capacity. We’ve designed over 85 percent of India’s civilian nuclear infrastructure, built 12,000+ circuit kilometres of transmission lines, and delivered 250 substations that keep electricity flowing reliably across the country.
Our expertise in nuclear engineering extends to advanced global programmes. We’ve contributed to ITER, the international fusion research project in France, showcasing our ability to work with high-precision systems and global research institutions.
TCE is also helping shape the future of nuclear energy through active participation in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programmes. Our work supports global SMR development and India’s Bharat Small Reactor (BSR) initiative, aimed at creating scalable, safe, and commercially viable nuclear systems for industrial clusters, island grids, and remote communities.
In energy storage, TCE leads India’s growth in pumped hydro. We played a key role in the Pinnapuram Integrated Pumped Storage Project, the largest in the country, serving as the Owner’s Engineer. We also supported a 100 MW floating solar feasibility study, opening new possibilities for clean energy development.
Innovation drives our work in transmission systems. We supported a national pilot on Dynamic Line Rating for a 100 km, 400 kV double circuit corridor. This project, featured in the National Electricity Plan, shows how smart technologies can boost grid capacity without expanding land use.
With deep technical knowledge, multidisciplinary design capabilities, and proven execution experience, TCE remains a trusted partner for utilities, developers, government agencies, and international organisations. We are committed to building energy systems that are sustainable, resilient, and aligned with future technology, policy, and climate goals.
TCE continues to support the global energy transition through responsible engineering, nuclear innovation, and long-term value creation for society and industry.
We provide procurement, and construction/program management services for Nuclear Islands (excluding core Nuclear Process Systems), Small Modular Reactors (SMR), Bharat Small Reactors (BSR), Conventional Islands, and Balance of Plant. Our capabilities encompass all aspects of plant engineering, procurement assistance, and construction/program management.
Our expertise includes engineering facilities for fission reactors, fusion reactor utilities, and the nuclear fuel cycle. Additionally, we conduct seismic re-evaluations and margin assessments for operational nuclear power plants.
We provide services for the planning, design, and engineering of renewable energy projects, including Solar, Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Floating Solar PV (FSPV) plants, and hybrid power plants, from concept to commissioning.
Our expertise includes Wind Resource Assessment (WRA), wind farm layout and design, foundations for wind turbines, solar energy yield estimation, large ground-mounted solar parks, rooftop solar installations, and the integration of renewable energy into the grid.
We excel in the planning, design, and implementation of hydropower projects with expertise in development of dams, tunnels, low and high-pressure steel penstocks, powerhouse structures, turbine-generator units, and power evacuation systems.
We also specialise in the strengthening and rehabilitation of aging dams, safety reviews, and renovation and upgrade of existing hydropower stations. Our expertise includes hydrological analyses, water availability optimisation, reservoir management, flood control, and drought mitigation, contributing to the management of hydropower plants and pumped storage projects (PSPs).
We provide services across geotechnical, civil, architectural, structural, thermal process, water and wastewater, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls. Leveraging advanced 3D integrated plant engineering capabilities, we also offer procurement, field engineering, inspection, testing, and commissioning services.
We specialise in the design and engineering of fossil fuel-based power plants and green hydrogen projects. We also deliver services for plant assessments, performance improvements, and retrofitting. Our digital solutions enhance the performance and reliability of thermal plants, ensuring optimal operations.
Our services encompass conventional and specialised electrical system studies for industrial and grid applications, substation automation and digitalisation, and strategies for distribution system loss reduction and optimisation.
Our expertise includes the engineering of substations (AIS/GIS/HVDC) and transmission line networks, as well as conducting technical due diligence for substation and transmission line assets. Additionally, we perform power system studies and engineer grid-connected Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects, ensuring efficient and reliable power distribution.
We offer advanced facilities in the power sector that support future-ready solutions across nuclear, hydroelectric, renewable, and thermal power generation. These include High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and nuclear fusion programmes. Our services enable precision testing, simulation, and reliability assurance, supporting smart grid integration and energy storage innovation.
By combining cutting-edge engineering with global best practices, we help clients meet growing demand for clean, efficient, and cost-effective energy while ensuring sustainability, safety, and long-term performance across the electricity value chain.
