Transmission utilities manage extensive networks of substations and associated infrastructure that require a structured approach to asset planning, maintenance and performance monitoring. This project was undertaken to strengthen asset management practices and establish a framework aligned with internationally recognised asset management principles. The programme focused on assessing existing processes, identifying improvement opportunities and developing a roadmap to enhance asset reliability, operational efficiency and long-term value realisation across the network.

TCE's Scope

TCE carried out a comprehensive assessment of existing asset management practices and performed a gap analysis against ISO 55001 requirements. The scope included development of an asset management framework, preparation of functional, technical and operational architecture, and formulation of an implementation roadmap and deployment strategy. TCE also developed governance mechanisms, performance measurement frameworks and business case recommendations, while supporting technology evaluation, procurement activities and preparation of technical specifications for implementation.

Impact

The programme provided a structured foundation for asset management across the transmission network and established a clear pathway towards ISO 55001 readiness. It strengthened reliability-centred maintenance practices, enhanced visibility of asset performance and improved governance of critical infrastructure. The project also supported informed investment decisions and enabled a more systematic approach to managing asset life cycles, operational risks and long-term network performance.
