The Narora Atomic Power Station in Uttar Pradesh consists of two 235 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) units connected to the northern grid. Unit 1 began commercial operation in 1991, followed by Unit 2 in 1992, further advancing India’s indigenous nuclear capability.

Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) provided complete engineering services for major structures such as the reactor and turbine buildings, service building, pump house, and switchyard. The firm also designed the plant’s main output and auxiliary electrical systems, including the 220 kV switchyard, ensuring safe and efficient power transmission. Following a fire incident at Unit 1, TCE supported rehabilitation and design restoration efforts, strengthening the plant’s safety and operational resilience. The project reinforced TCE’s long-standing association with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and its expertise in delivering complex nuclear power infrastructure.
