Location

Odisha, India

This project focused on development of cyclone resilient electrical infrastructure to strengthen the distribution network in cyclone prone regions of Odisha. The work was based on detailed assessment of existing network performance during past cyclone events and identification of frequently failing infrastructure components.

Data collection and analysis were carried out to understand failure mechanisms associated with high wind speeds during cyclones. Based on these findings, standard structures and designs were strengthened to improve resilience and reduce damage during extreme weather events.

The assignment also included preparation and modification of technical specifications, design drawings and bills of quantities to support implementation of strengthened infrastructure.

TCE's Scope

TCE provided design engineering consultancy, including field data collection, failure analysis, strengthening of standard designs, preparation of revised design drawings and technical specifications, and development of bills of quantities and cost estimates.

Impact

The project improved resilience of the electrical distribution network by addressing cyclone induced failure mechanisms through strengthened designs. The revised specifications supported reduced outage duration, improved safety and enhanced reliability of power supply during extreme weather events.
