Mumbai’s water supply system serves one of the largest urban populations in the country and relies on a complex network of sources, treatment facilities, transmission mains and reservoirs. Increasing demand due to population growth and urban densification required systematic augmentation to maintain reliability. The project strengthened key components including transmission pipelines, pumping stations and storage facilities to enhance conveyance capacity, reduce stress during peak demand periods and improve operational robustness.

TCE's Scope

Tata Consulting Engineers undertook system studies and hydraulic analysis of transmission networks, identified augmentation requirements and prepared detailed engineering designs for pipelines, pumping stations and associated infrastructure, and provided technical review and coordination during execution. Designs addressed challenging conditions including dense development, limited space and high operational loads with emphasis on reliability, redundancy and ease of maintenance.

Impact

The project strengthened Mumbai’s water supply capacity, improved resilience during peak demand and supported long term water security objectives for the city.
