Location

Delhi, India

Delhi’s water supply system serves a vast urban area with wide variations in demand, pressure and service levels. Rapid population growth, expansion of urban boundaries and reliance on multiple sources placed increasing stress on transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The project strengthened the water supply system, improved reliability and prepared the network for future source augmentation through detailed assessment of transmission and distribution systems including trunk mains, reservoirs and pumping stations, identification of pressure imbalances, bottlenecks and high loss areas and planning of strengthening measures to improve hydraulic performance and stabilise pressure.

TCE's Scope

Tata Consulting Engineers led system analysis, master planning and detailed engineering, conducted demand assessment and hydraulic modelling, identified priority strengthening works and prepared detailed designs for pipelines, pumping stations and storage reservoirs, supported preparation of specifications and tender documents and provided quality control during implementation. Solutions were developed to optimise utilisation of existing assets while enabling phased capacity enhancement and improving equity of supply across zones with operational flexibility for future sources.

Impact

The project strengthened Delhi’s water supply framework, improved distribution efficiency and enhanced readiness for long term demand growth, which contributed to more reliable and equitable services.
