Municipalities, town panchayats and rural habitations across the Villupuram and Cuddalore region faced chronic water shortages and limited local sources. The regional project developed a shared water supply system that served multiple settlements efficiently by leveraging available surface water resources and partially developed infrastructure. The programme assessed existing assets, identified regional sources and planned transmission, treatment and distribution systems to serve a large and diverse service area with phased implementation to enable gradual expansion of coverage.
