TCE served as the architect’s engineer for the 2 x 125 MW Surat Lignite Power Plant (Phase 1) in Gujarat, India, working for Gujarat Industries Power Corporation Ltd (GIPCL). The project, utilising Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CFBC) technology for its boilers, marks a significant advancement in using fluidised bed principles and limestone addition for emission control.
TCE’s comprehensive involvement ranged from conceptualisation to commissioning, with the project executed in individual packages. Units 1 and 2 were the largest CFBC installations in India at their commissioning, setting benchmarks for lignite fired CFBC projects nationwide. Over 23 years of operation, the plant has achieved over 1.63 lakh hours of operation, maintaining emissions well below environmental standards without the need for Flue Gas Desulfurisation, demonstrating successful long term operation and adherence to stringent emission norms.
