Location
Guinea
This project involved the development of a fully integrated port‑based material‑handling system to support the export of high‑quality bauxite from the mining region in Guinea. The facility forms the final link between mine‑site operations and international shipment, enabling safe, reliable and efficient movement of bauxite from inland production areas to global markets.
The development covered the complete handling chain from receiving crushed ore by rail to stockpiling, reclaiming and conveying, and finally loading vessels at the port. The infrastructure integrates mechanical, civil, electrical and environmental systems designed to operate as a cohesive unit in a high‑throughput environment. Key components of the facility include train unloading infrastructure, stockpile and reclaim systems, conveyor networks, ship and barge loading equipment, storm‑water containment, water and sewage treatment systems, internal road networks, power distribution, lighting, bridges and fire‑protection systems. Together, these systems create a robust export platform capable of supporting sustained shipment volumes.
TCE’s Scope
TCE delivered a comprehensive suite of engineering and project support services for the port package, beginning with basic engineering and progressing through detailed engineering. This included design across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation disciplines, ensuring seamless integration of all plant systems. Procurement services were provided through vendor evaluation, technical offer reviews and compliance verification, enabling appropriate selection of equipment and systems. TCE also carried out review engineering to ensure design alignment with operational needs and statutory requirements. During the construction phase, TCE supported the project with on‑ground technical clarifications, design interpretations and engineering assistance. This ensured that all works were executed in accordance with design intent, quality standards and safety requirements. Across the project lifecycle, TCE contributed to planning, coordination and documentation, helping maintain consistent progress, clear communication and strong governance.
Impact
The completed facility significantly strengthens the region’s capability to export bauxite efficiently and reliably. By integrating rail unloading, stockpiling, conveying and ship‑loading systems within a single operational framework, the development enhances throughput capacity and reduces handling time. Environmental systems such as storm‑water containment, water treatment and dust‑suppression measures support responsible operations and reduce local environmental impact. The expanded infrastructure including power distribution, lighting and internal transport networks also brings long‑term utility to the port area. From an economic perspective, the project improves supply‑chain reliability, enabling smoother movement of mineral resources to global markets. It supports regional development by creating opportunities for local engineers, contractors and technical specialists involved throughout the project. With its modern handling systems and integrated port infrastructure, the facility contributes to more resilient export operations and positions the region for future growth in mineral trade.
