A leading agricultural equipment manufacturer established a modern tractor production facility at Mandideep near Bhopal. The plant was designed for an initial capacity of 12,000 tractors per year, with provisions to scale up to 18,000 units annually to meet future demand. The project required advanced planning for utility systems, storage facilities and mechanical infrastructure to ensure smooth operations and scalability. Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) provided comprehensive engineering solutions, focusing on efficient water management, fuel handling and compressed air systems.

TCE’s Scope

TCE’s responsibilities covered the entire engineering cycle for utility systems and mechanical infrastructure. This included preparing a concept note for the water system and effluent treatment plant (ETP), outlining the overall scheme for treatment and distribution. TCE developed flow diagrams for the water system, high-speed diesel (HSD) storage and handling system, and compressed air system.

The team produced detailed piping drawings, including plans, sections, pipe support details and bill of materials for the yard area, utility building, water treatment plant, pump house and HSD storage area. TCE also prepared tender specifications for piping contracts, carried out bid analysis and made purchase recommendations. Vendor drawings for valves and special components were reviewed to ensure compliance with design standards. Throughout the project, TCE coordinated all activities with the client and contractors to ensure timely execution and adherence to quality requirements.

Impact

This project demonstrated TCE’s expertise in utility system design, mechanical engineering and project coordination for large-scale industrial facilities. By delivering robust and scalable solutions, TCE enabled efficient operations and created future-ready infrastructure for high-volume tractor production.
