Nagpur experiences significant seasonal variation in water availability with acute shortages during summer months. Rapid urban growth and increasing demand placed pressure on existing water supply and Sewage infrastructure which highlighted the need for a long term development strategy. The project prepared an integrated master plan to guide systematic augmentation of water supply and Sewage services. It assessed existing sources, treatment facilities, transmission networks and Sewage systems and analysed population growth projections and demand scenarios across the planning horizon.

TCE's Scope

Tata Consulting Engineers led master planning and engineering, reviewed earlier studies, undertook detailed surveys and mapping of assets, performed demand forecasting and prepared the integrated master plan. Detailed engineering was carried out for priority works identified for early implementation. Emphasis was placed on optimising layouts, balancing capital investment with operational efficiency and ensuring that proposed solutions were scalable. Sewage planning focused on improving coverage, rationalising conveyance routes and defining treatment capacities aligned with future growth.

Impact

The project provided Nagpur with an implementable roadmap for sustainable water supply and Sewage development, strengthened the city’s ability to manage growth and improved service reliability and public health outcomes.
