Rapid industrial development in Delhi led to increasing generation of industrial solid waste and created challenges related to safe collection, transportation and disposal. Existing arrangements were inadequate to manage growing volumes systematically and in an environmentally responsible manner. The project planned and developed an integrated solid waste management framework for an industrial complex with large scale manufacturing and allied activities. The team examined the nature, quantity and characteristics of waste generated across different types of industries, conducted field surveys to establish realistic generation rates, composition and calorific value and evaluated alternative systems for storage, collection, transportation and disposal to identify technically viable and economically sustainable solutions.
