Gujarat undertook a comprehensive upgrade of urban water supply and Sewage infrastructure across more than seventy cities including Ahmedabad, Anand, Porbandar, Dwarka, Morbi, Bhuj and Kutch. The statewide initiative modernised water and Sewage systems to support sustainable urban growth, public health and environmental stewardship. It executed eleven river based intake schemes, ninety five water supply schemes, two hundred and fifty seven elevated service reservoirs, three hundred and sixty nine water pumping stations, one thousand six hundred and thirty three sumps and forty seven water treatment plants with a cumulative capacity of nine hundred million litres per day.
The programme prepared and reviewed detailed project reports for one hundred and twenty sewage treatment plants, constructed seven major plants under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation and thirty seven plants under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, and commissioned three hundred and forty underground drainage pumping stations.
TCE's Scope
Tata Consulting Engineers managed the programme end to end by providing design management, site surveys, concept notes, preparation and review of detailed project reports, bid process management, technical and financial evaluation, vendor drawing review, inspection of materials and equipment, construction management, risk and value engineering, quality control, environment health and safety and commissioning. TCE’s technical expertise included optimised pipe networks, reduced canal crossings, earthquake resistant designs and open technology tenders for treatment processes along with services during the defects liability period.
Impact
Intelligent design and value engineering delivered significant cost savings, improved reliability and enhanced operational efficiency across the state. The initiative integrated best practice solutions and demonstrated measurable reductions in water loss through targeted studies such as the Ahmedabad leakage programme. Gujarat’s urban water and Sewage infrastructure has been modernised and strengthened to support long term growth and improved public health outcomes.
