Gandhinagar was planned as a modern administrative capital, yet sustained population growth and expansion of residential and institutional areas placed increasing pressure on the water supply system. Existing infrastructure required augmentation to ensure reliable service levels, adequate storage and equitable distribution.

The project assessed treatment facilities, transmission mains, pumping systems and service reservoirs and reviewed system layouts to improve hydraulic performance and operational flexibility with the objective of creating a robust supply system capable of meeting future demand without compromising reliability.

TCE's Scope

Tata Consulting Engineers conducted system studies and demand assessment, carried out hydraulic analysis of transmission and distribution networks and prepared detailed designs for pipelines, pumping stations and storage reservoirs. The team prepared technical specifications and tender documentation and supported quality control during execution. Engineering solutions emphasised optimal routing of transmission mains, appropriate sizing of storage facilities and efficient pumping arrangements that integrated seamlessly with existing infrastructure while allowing phased expansion as the city grew.

Impact

The project strengthened Gandhinagar’s water supply capacity, improved distribution reliability and provided a scalable infrastructure framework aligned with long term development plans.
