The Gamsberg Phase-II Zinc Concentrator Project was developed to expand mineral processing capacity at one of the world's largest zinc deposits. The project comprises a 4 MTPA zinc mineral processing plant and associated infrastructure designed to support increased production, improved operational performance and long-term growth. A major milestone was achieved with the successful production of First Metal in Concentrate (MIC), marking the transition from commissioning to operational production and demonstrating the successful integration of the crushing, grinding, flotation and dewatering circuits.

Building on the successful implementation and operation of Phase-I, the Phase-II facility incorporated several engineering and process improvements aimed at enhancing plant reliability, operability, safety and lifecycle performance.

TCE's Scope

TCE supported the project across its lifecycle, spanning project development, engineering, implementation support, commissioning and Performance Guarantee Test support. As Project Implementation Partner, TCE provided multidisciplinary engineering expertise and project management support, enabling the successful execution and integration of key process systems across the concentrator facility.

Impact

Leveraging operational insights gained from Phase-I, TCE introduced strategic enhancements across the processing plant to improve throughput, flexibility, recovery performance and maintainability. These improvements included optimisation of crushing, grinding, flotation and dewatering systems, enhanced automation features, improved safety provisions and future expansion readiness. The successful achievement of First Metal in Concentrate validated the effectiveness of these interventions and established a robust foundation for sustained operations and future growth
