Delhi’s Sewage system serves a vast urban area comprising multiple drainage zones, numerous pumping stations and several sewage treatment facilities. Rapid population growth and increasing wastewater generation created capacity constraints, operational inefficiencies and risk of environmental non-compliance. The project created a structured framework for immediate improvements and long-term development of the city’s Sewage infrastructure. Comprehensive analysis was carried out for trunk sewers, zonal and terminal pumping stations and treatment facilities to identify bottlenecks and overloaded sections and define augmentation needs. A city-wide Sewage master plan was prepared and aligned with projected population growth and future water supply augmentation.

TCE's Story

Tata Consulting Engineers developed hydraulic models to assess system capacity, identified required upgrades and prepared engineering designs for sewer networks, pumping stations and sewage treatment plants. Detailed engineering support was provided for multiple pumping stations, covering civil structures, mechanical equipment and electrical systems. Designs for major treatment facilities were reviewed and refined to ensure performance reliability, operational flexibility and ease of maintenance with emphasis on redundancy, resilience during peak flow conditions and long term sustainability.

Impact

The project strengthened Delhi’s Sewage planning and implementation framework, improved conveyance and treatment reliability and reduced environmental risks. It provided a clear roadmap for managing increasing wastewater volumes while supporting long term urban and environmental sustainability.
