The Barshi and Ashti schemes comprise large lift based water and energy infrastructure projects developed on the Bhima and Sina river systems within the Krishna basin. The schemes involve multi stage pumping and conveyance through long underground pipelines to support irrigation across extensive command areas.

Barshi Stage I involves lifting water by approximately 58 m through 2 rows of 10.25 km pipelines, while Stage II involves an additional lift of 25 m. The Ashti scheme involves lifting water by approximately 41 m through 2 rows of 4.77 km pipelines.

TCE’s scope

TCE was responsible for detailed engineering of the pumping systems, including approach channels, forebays, pumphouse layouts, rising mains, delivery chambers, pump selection, mechanical and electrical systems, and switchyard design. TCE also coordinated design verification with state authorities.

Impact

The schemes enable large scale water conveyance and energy intensive pumping infrastructure supporting irrigation across more than 23,000 hectares, demonstrating integration of hydraulic and electrical engineering at regional scale.
