This project involved an arc flash safety study for a large alumina refinery complex with an installed capacity of 2.2 MTPA. The study covered major operating units including evaporation, ball mill operations, RMF and MOL areas, as well as 33 kV and 6.6 kV power plant stations and the Kesinga substation.

The objective was to assess arc flash hazards, identify incident energy levels and define appropriate personal protective equipment requirements and safe working boundaries for personnel working on or near live electrical systems.

TCE's Scope

TCE executed arc flash hazard assessments across identified process and power areas, including evaluation of incident energy levels and determination of safe working boundaries and protection requirements. The scope included preparation and submission of the arc flash study report and arc flash labels.

Impact

The study strengthened electrical safety by providing quantified hazard assessments and clear guidance on protection requirements and safe working limits across 33 kV and 6.6 kV systems. The deliverables supported safer maintenance practices and reduced personnel risk.
