Ahmedabad’s rapid urban and industrial growth required comprehensive development of sewage infrastructure to support expanding residential, commercial and industrial areas. Existing systems needed augmentation to manage rising wastewater flows and to improve sanitation coverage.

The programme included expansion of sewer networks, construction of sewage pumping stations, development of large capacity treatment facilities and creation of extensive underground conveyance systems. Gravity based and pumped systems were integrated to optimise flow, minimise operational inefficiencies and ensure reliable conveyance under peak conditions.

TCE's Story

Tata Consulting Engineers provided master planning and detailed engineering. The scope included hydraulic assessment of existing infrastructure, planning of new sewer networks, design of pumping stations and treatment facilities and preparation of detailed drawings, specifications and tender documents, along with inspection and quality control support during execution.

Large underground ducts and pumping systems were engineered to handle high peak flows while ensuring durability and long-term performance. Treatment facilities were designed to meet environmental requirements and allow phased capacity expansion in line with urban growth.

Impact

The project significantly expanded sewage coverage in Ahmedabad, improved wastewater treatment capacity and strengthened environmental protection which supported sustainable urban development and healthier living conditions.
