This project involved comprehensive grid compliance and power system studies for a large scale solar power plant with an installed capacity of 534 MW. The assignment was undertaken to ensure reliable integration of inverter based renewable generation into the transmission network while meeting applicable grid code requirements.

The scope included development of detailed power system models representing the solar plant and its grid interface. Studies were carried out to evaluate steady state performance, dynamic behaviour during grid disturbances and overall power quality performance. Key analyses included dynamic inverter modelling, fault ride through assessment, and evaluation of voltage and frequency response under various operating scenarios.

The project also included assessment of power quality parameters to ensure that harmonic distortion, voltage variations and other inverter related impacts remained within acceptable limits for secure grid operation.

TCE's Scope

TCE acted as owner’s consultant and carried out system modelling and grid compliance studies. The scope included dynamic modelling of inverter systems, fault ride through analysis, power quality assessment and preparation of steady state, dynamic and power quality reports. Automation tools were developed using Python scripts and Excel based calculation sheets to streamline dynamic studies and benchmarking processes.

Impact

The studies enabled reliable integration of 534 MW of solar capacity by validating compliance with grid code requirements under steady state and disturbance conditions. Automated study tools improved efficiency and repeatability of analysis, supporting timely delivery of accurate reports and strengthening confidence in renewable grid integration.
