This project involves development of a 30 MW, 30 MWh battery energy storage system integrated with an existing diesel generation plant. The system is designed to provide primary and secondary reserve ancillary services and immediate backup power supply to the Visayas grid.

The battery energy storage system supports fast response to grid disturbances and contributes to improved frequency and voltage regulation. By providing rapid reserve capability, the system enhances grid resilience and supports stable operation under varying load and generation conditions.

TCE's Scope

TCE acted as owner’s engineer and provided design and engineering services for integration of the battery energy storage system with the existing generation plant and grid interface. The scope included review of system configuration, grid interconnection requirements and performance criteria for reserve and backup services.

Impact

The project strengthened grid reliability by providing fast responding reserve capacity and improved backup power availability. It enhanced operational flexibility of the grid and supported improved stability in a system with increasing reliance on flexible and distributed energy resources.
