This project involved development of a 110/22 kV substation adjacent to railway tracks near Mankhurd railway station to support a metropolitan rail transport project. The 110 kV line feeding the corridor was looped in and out to supply the new substation. The project commenced in November 1996 and was commissioned in June 1998.

The substation required integration of high voltage systems and comprehensive auxiliary and safety systems to support reliable traction related power supply. Engineering coverage included switchyard works, control and protection systems, SCADA integration and station services.

TCE's Scope

TCE was appointed for engineering of the electrical and mechanical systems. The scope included ventilation systems, air conditioning systems, fire protection and high velocity water spray systems, EOT crane, switchyard engineering, earthing and lightning systems, switchyard and control building lighting, cabling, control and protection, SCADA and PLCC systems, fire alarm systems, DC systems, 415 V auxiliary systems and indoor switchgear engineering.

Impact

The substation strengthened reliable power supply for metropolitan rail infrastructure by providing a dedicated 110/22 kV supply node integrated with modern control, protection and safety systems. Looping of the 110 kV line enhanced supply continuity and improved operational flexibility for a critical urban transport corridor.
