The project involved modernisation and extension of an existing coal based captive power plant with an installed capacity of 1 x 16 MW. The upgraded facility was based on circulating fluidised bed combustion technology and was integrated with the existing plant infrastructure.

The scope included construction of new foundations and structures for the boiler, turbine generator and auxiliary systems. Steam generated was utilised both for process requirements and for power generation. The project incorporated upgraded coal handling systems, electrostatic precipitator facilities and flue gas routing connected to an existing chimney.

Specialised civil and structural solutions were adopted to accommodate new equipment adjacent to existing operating facilities. Dynamic design considerations were applied for coal handling structures and vibration sensitive equipment foundations.

TCE’s Scope

TCE’s scope was limited to civil and structural engineering services for the modernisation project. This included design of turbine building structures, boiler foundations, deaerator structures, coal handling system foundations, fan foundations and electrical maintenance buildings.

Impact

TCE enabled execution of complex civil and structural works within an operating power plant environment. The project supported modernisation of captive power infrastructure while maintaining continuity of plant operations and structural integrity of both new and existing facilities.
